Brain Development During Adolescence: Neuroscientific Insights Into . . . New findings in developmental psychology and neuroscience reveal that a fundamental reorganization of the brain takes place in adolescence In postnatal brain development, the maximum density of gray matter is reached first in the primary sensorimotor cortex, and the prefrontal cortex matures last
Chapter 13 - Physical Development in Adolescence - Quizlet Study with Quizlet and memorize flashcards containing terms like During adolescence the frontal lobes of the brain are fully formed the brain gets signficantly larger and heavier there is an increase in white matter and thinning of gray matter brain development drastically reduces risky behavior, Substance _____ involves repeated, harmful use
Ch 3 - Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Flashcards - Consist of white matter grey matter - A significant developmental change in adolescence is the increase of white matter the decrease of grey matter in the prefrontal cortex
What neuroscience tells us about the teenage brain Adolescence—spanning from puberty until the mid-20s—describes the transitional period between childhood and adulthood, according to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine During this period, the brain grows and changes in a number of ways
How Does the Brain Develop During Adolescence? White matter makes up about half the brain’s volume, and its growth outpaces gray matter during this period The insulation coating these wires (called myelin) thickens progressively through adolescence and into the mid-20s
Longitudinal changes in grey and white matter during adolescence Brain development continues actively during adolescence Previous MRI studies have shown complex patterns of apparent loss of grey matter (GM) volume and increases in white matter (WM) volume and fractional anisotropy (FA), an index of WM microstructure
